Hard to put a good book down, isn’t it? No matter where I go, I always keep a good book at hand! In fact, as far as I can remember – it has always been like that for me.
Thinking back – in the 8th (?) grade – Mrs. Spain would let me check out some books from her bookshelf. At the end of the year, I had grown to love those books! As a present, I was given Carson McCullers Member of the Wedding and Antoine de Saint Exupéry’s The Little Prince. To this day, I still have and treasure these books.
Of course, that summer, I believe it was Stephen King’s Firestarter that came out in the theater. As I recall, I could not see the movie (I was under 17) but, there was nothing stopping me from bike riding down to the Morningside Bookstore and purchasing the book. That book lead to the love of Stephen King, Dean Koontz, and John Saul.
Then came V.C Andrews after I read the back of a friend’s Flowers in the Attic Book!
Pretty soon, I was picking up and collecting these author’s books. Also came Frank Herbert, Isaac Asimov, Anne Rule, Anne Rice and my collection of movie-tie in books.
Since there is no place to unpack the collections I have kept 25+ years later, I now have a place on the web I can keep a running list of the books I have. That way, I can buy new ones without forgetting I had bought it a few years ago (or other scenarios).
For those of you who have visited this website before, I have tried many different ways to catalogue all of my books and DVDs. Now that I have been using WordPress for a bit longer, now that I understand databases, php and xhtml beter, now I can create the kind of collections for media that I have been trying to create all these years! It was one thing to make a site with a static list that I added to everytime – which became a pain – now, with the site dynamic I can create my own tailored section!
