It all started in 1979. V.C. Andrews published her first bookFlowers in the Attic. Who knew that this would lead to all of the books that have now been published in her name. That Dollanganger family saga has led not only to a blockbuster movie, but other books in the series that have captivated readers and led them to read further collections.
When V.C. Andrews first began writing, her publisher revealed what V.C. stood for in her name. At that time, it was thought people only wanted to read books by men, So Virginia Cleo Andrews went by V.C. Andrews to all of her readers.
She had an accident when she was a teenager. This accident left her in a wheel chair the rest of her life. She never married or had any children.
In 1986, Virginia Cleo Andrews died. A public letter written by the Andrews family, was published in novels. It stated the family was working with a writer selected by Virginia to expand and continue novels in her name. Her legendary books would carry on. The identity of the ghost writer had been kept secret for years by request of the Andrews family. In time, it became known that she selected Andrew Neiderman to continue her books as her ghost writer.
1999 celebrated V.C. Andrews 20th anniversary for her books. Her books – beginning with the story ofFlowers in the Attic have now become a legend. When she died in 1986, her books had sold 30 million copies. Now, V.C. Andrews novels have sold more than 90 million copies. Her novels have also been translated into at least 16 different foreign languages.
With Andrew Neiderman now writing as her ghost writer and carrying the tradition on, more novels have grabbed the attention of readers young and old.
