Photography

Although I have had many cameras over the years, now I have a camera that will allow me to take the kind of photos I had only dreamed about before. I want to learn how to put in a photograph – the things I can envision and see.

Macros

Try as I might, I could never get a real close up photo of a spider, a flower, or even a butterfly without it turning out all dark and blurry. I have always wanted to be able to take the macros like I see in the National Geographic Magazines. To me, the macros are the unseen world. We pass these objects each and every day, but we barely notice many of the parts that make the whole that we see. When was the last time you stopped and looked at a bee and saw each individual hair on it’s body, or the geometric patterns in the petals of a delicate flower. Even each grain of pollen as it covers a petal or even a bee that is coming out of the flower. It is these small wonders that make the world we see. And, it is these small wonders that so many take for granted or never knew existed.

Colour

Colour is all around us. Colour enhances and influences the moods we are in. From the majestic reds to the bluest of the blues, colour combinations affect how we see and interact. As you can see by the photos, I love seeing bright cheerful colours. From the bright yellow contrasting with the deepest black of a background, it is what makes everyday things stand out or blend in.

Subjects

Beauty is all around us. From spilling the bowl of candy corn to the bright red roof on an old dilapidated barn, everywhere you look, you can always find beauty. Whoever thought that a simple child’s game of jacks could bring out such vividness when set on a mirror. Even water with food colouring in it can bring out all sorts of patterns and richness. The simple things seen as a collective take on a whole new look when captured alone.

Aspire

It is my hope – my passion – to learn how to use this camera to it’s fullest – and to be able to bring to the world the thousand words that a photograph is worth. It is my pleasure to bring you along with me in this journey through the lens of my camera.

Somehow I came across your site while finding pictures of corn (All around us here in Ohio) – and read what you said about macro lens – to help us see the beauty that surrounds us. I agree. I’ve also tried close ups – tree bark, mushrooms, tiny weeds or flowers surrounded by taller grasses… all hard to capture. So, good luck to you with your photography. What kind of lens do you use now for those 3-D type close-ups?
    Thanks, Bill
