As I was reading a post from Wordpress.org, I ran across FunkyMagic’s website website. On it, there is an article about a different kind of search engine, so I thought I would check it out.

Aleeya in a Search on Kartoo

Aleeya in a search result on Kartoo Search Engine

The Kartoo Search Engine is a different type of search engine to watch in action. It does the meta search that most do, but the results are displayed in a visual real time type of results. The results are shown in a map and how the different results relate to each other. For more information on the Kartoo Search Engine.

I have to say this is a very interesting visual. I am on a high speed 5.0 MB DSL Connection, so I have a hard time judging how it works on slower speeds and DSL, but this is great! For the times you want to see how your results relate to each other, this idea is brilliant!

As Aleeya.net makes the Move from WordPress 1.5 to 2.0, one of the best plugins I have found to help Search Engines, SEO and my site is Dagon Design Sitemap Generator by Aleister. I run this along with Google Sitemaps generator. I link to the Dagon Design Sitemap on my pages in the Sitemap link of the navigation so the search engines will crawl the link of my Sitemap (Google as well as others).

Also, I use Dagon Design Sitemap Generator as a 404 page so when people come to the site if there is an outdated link, they can view all the pages on the site instead of just a page saying its not found. This increases the chance someone will see something else they like as well as a search engine crawling links.

In previous articles, one of the quickest and easiest ways to prepare your website to be Search Engine Optimized (SEO’d) was by using a good Title for your page. In the article The Power of a Title (Tag) , you can see why the power of a title is so important. Titles are used throughout the site to pretty much summarize the content that will be displayed. In the article Where the Title is Seen , the many places that a title will show up is demonstrated from the browser itself to the names of the shortcuts and favourites. The article The Psychology of Page Titles explains how Titles are seen by Search Engines and people using Search Engines.

Lately, it seems the focus of a lot of my work on this site has been centered around Search Engine Optimization. More than anything, the challenge to me for my own site has been one I have set. My goal is to have a whole site that has all of the content HTML, XML, and CSS validated. With the code itself actually being right, I can focus on other areas of website that can improve search engine ratings. The better the site is rated in a search engine will help improve the amount of traffic viewing the site.

Although this website is just a personal Blog based on things I enjoy doing - and a place for me to keep lists of things (such as DVDs and Books I own) - it is also a place for me to have a playground and learn. By learning how websites are optimized for search engines, and by learning how search engines work, I can learn more about what all goes on behind the scenes of what we all see on the web.
