With the release of the upcoming WordPress 2.7, we will finally get to see some changes that are made in the comments section. It has been forever.. at least over a year if any – since there have been changes to the comments section of WordPress. Now, with this welcomed changes, we will also see change in the coding of the WordPress themes.
Otto has brought us a preview of things to come for the new WordPress 2.7 comments. If you are a WordPress user and especially if you are a WP theme designer, you will want to make sure you check out the details of Otto’s article. Although everything is not set in stone at this time since the final release has not been made (WP 2.7 is scheduled to be released in November, 2008), this article does an excellent job of giving you a heads up on what is to come and what to watch for.
Included in Otto’s presentation are examples of the 2.7 version changes in comments such as:
- 2.7 Detection
- Password Protection Check
- The Comments Loop
- The Power of Ajax
These notations will make the WP 2.7 comments much simpler for WP Users and Theme designers. I do look forward to this new version.

Ryan Boren also has an excellent article on the changes in WordPress 2.7 in the new version as well.
From Ryan Boren’s article Stalking the Wild 2.7, I have to admit, I love the idea of some of these new changes. Especially these:
- Reply to comments from the admin
- Keyboard hot keys for managing comments
- Threaded Comments and new wp_list_comments() API
- Sticky Posts
This version is going to be even better than before. And, if you cannot tell, I already love WordPress to begin with!
