Like all ESAA Aquitaine training courses, the “section” of Multimedia Computer Graphics makes it possible to acquire in only 2 years, all the know-how of the design AND production professions that use IT. Too often thought of as hyper-specialization, computer graphics training can no longer be limited to 2D computer graphics and website creation. They now extend to a range of tools related to video games, 3D and photography. The media have also evolved towards full web rather than fixed digital media. The need to adapt these contents (responsive, tablet/smartphone optimizations) requires a much broader mastery of computer graphics skills.

A multimedia graphic designer, known as a “polytechnic”, trained at ESAA Aquitaine, will be able to design and create all types of websites, create images, photos and illustrations for printing and any other medium, 3D images and animation in video or real time, editing and special effects on video, or video games for the web or other media.

Thanks to this artistic and technical versatility, the Ecole Supérieure d’Arts Appliqués d’Aquitaine offers its students a wide range of opportunities in the professional world:

3D Graphic Designer: Based on specifications or instructions from his superiors or in total autonomy, he models, textures, illuminates and animates 3D objects, recreates environments, special effects in order to illustrate a subject, represent a real or fictional product. It uses design, texture and 3D rendering software. He is also able to prepare images before his texturing or 3D rendering work (preparation, filtering of 2D textures) and after (export in layers, compositing, animated or fixed rendering for editing or post processing)

Web Developer: For the realization of dynamic websites, front-end alone or manageable, he (she) exchanges with other professionals (webmaster, artistic director, IT developer, marketing, sales, etc.), he (she) performs the screen layout by integrating and optimizing the different media and by description or programming languages for natural referencing. He (she) also uses to create these sites, or configure content managers (CMS), programming or description languages (JavaScript, PHP, XML, HTML).

Multimedia programmer: For the creation of dynamic websites, animations, 2D or 3D online video games, he/she exchanges with other professionals (artistic director, computer developer, marketing, sales, etc.), he/she performs the programming of interactions or animations using programming languages (Action Script, JavaScript, C# etc…). It develops 2D or 3D video games using 2D animation software, 2D or 3D video game engines (Unity 3D) or highly specialized javascript libraries (Three.js)

2D computer graphics designer: Based on specifications or instructions from his or her line manager, he or she participates in the design of multimedia projects for the production or adaptation of a graphic charter, taking into account ergonomic criteria, user interactivity, standards and technical constraints related to distribution media. He/she prepares media (texts, images, animations, sounds, videos, etc.) with professional software and according to the purpose of the expected product. In the case of customer orders, requiring two-dimensional and/or interactive animated media, he (she) designs animations composed of texts, images, sounds and videos and produces them with professional software. He/she develops the interactivity and implements it using a specific scripting language. He/she ensures the conformity of the realizations for the diffusion.

Graphic designer: He/she is autonomous in the realization of traditional or digital illustrations. In particular, it is able to quickly propose preliminary drafts for production phases (drawings, story-board drafts, etc.) but also to propose elaborate illustrations using a wide range of traditional illustration techniques. He also uses all the computer graphics and colorization tools, not only to retouch pre-existing elements but also to create an original illustration. He digitizes, retires, takes the outlines of a paper drawing or creates it directly on the creation software, he also colors illustrations to meet the requests of a sponsor, a graphic charter, a previously defined style. It usually uses a graphic tablet. He can also use the photographic medium, organize photo shooting sessions to illustrate or materialize a product or service.

Organized and autonomous: He/she ensures continuous technical and technological monitoring in his/her professional sector and takes on board major developments for the production of digital multimedia supports. He organizes his working time and cuts alone the phases of realization of a request (Gantt). He is able to validate alone the relevance of a technical choice or a method of realization and its adequacy with the request of his hierarchical or customer. It is ordered (5S) and respects file rendering protocols specific to support constraints or the request made to it. Finally, he respects the choices of a graphic style or observes a visual coherence in the creation of the different media he creates (graphic charter).

ESAA Aquitaine’s computer graphics trainers, active professionals, are aware of the realities of the world of work, and orient their teaching towards quality and versatility. In this sense, they treat and integrate these specialities as a whole in order to train creative people capable of meeting all today’s demands.
